Thoughts on Wedding Photos

This one special day in your life deserves to have a photographic record of the events!  Making sure that photographs capture the spirit and events of the day is vital.  Spend some time visiting potential photographers; look at their work, talk about their view of weddings and seek references where possible.

Some people are not comfortable in front of a camera, but this is not the day to indulge that feeling.  You may not like standing for posed photos but every wedding consultant we know would advise - "Don't make the mistake of skipping them."  This is a special day - a once in a lifetime event.  Everyone is gathered together and looking their best.  You will be glad you had them taken.  At the very least, there are five "must take photos":  the bride and groom together, the entire wedding party, the bride and groom with their parents, the couple with the bride's immediate family and the couple with the groom's immediate family.  These are key shots.

If you don't mind posing for photos, then there are other important points to observe and request photos.

*Consider having photos of the wedding party taken before the ceremony.  Note - if you don't want the groom to see you before you walk down the aisle - if this is a show stopper for you - then don't push it, but do build into your reception plans a host and hostess at your reception to insure that guests are being tended to in your absence which will be inevitable with group photos happening after the ceremony.

*The pre wedding shots should include more than just photos of the bride and her attendants "getting ready".  Be sure to include photos of the groom and groomsmen getting ready too.

*Some brides request that the photographer capture the faces of family members as they watch you walk down the aisle.  These can be special photos you will treasure.

The best advice is to consider these photographs to be part of the time capsule of your life that your children and grandchildren will enjoy seeing in years to come.  Hire the best photographer you can afford.  The results will be worth it.
